Number Six…

…on my list of thangs that have been keeping me busy is related to Halo. Last Monday, Bungie released an update to the Halo 2 code that not only fixed a lot of technical problems, it also significantly changed the way the game is played. Basically, what they have done is make some suddle, and not-so-suddle tweaks to the weapons in the game that actually makes it feel a bit more like Halo 1. Not exactly, mind you. Just a bit.

Brian and I actually played a little Halo 1 last night for old-time’s sake and it was still incredibly fun. I love them both. But to be honest, after the recent changes I love Halo 2 (ver 1.1) the best.

With that said, tomorrow will be a very special day. It has long been known that Bungie will be releasing a bunch of new maps for the multiplayer game.

Side note: Halo 2 has a story that can be experienced by one or two people, sititng in the same room, playing together. It also has a multiplayer mode which allows 2-16 people to play in a variety of combat games which could be likened to real-world paintball. There are many gametypes, such as: capture-the-flag, one-on-one, and the classic “kill everybody that isn’t you.” These multiplayer games are played in arenas that resmble, but are not, places in the single player game. They are, instead, designed with these specific gametypes in mind. Some are big, some are small, some have bases to hide in and defend. They are all different and fun in their own ways. These arenas are called “maps” and Halo 2 shipped with twelve of them.

On Monday, four new maps will become available for download online. Two will be free, and the other two will cost about $6.00. Later on, five more will become available. I am quite excited about this. It will provide new opportunities for strategy and overall pwnage.
