J. Allard, Badass.

(Apologies for the language.)
J. Allard, the Xbox 360 platform chief (head honcho dude) responded to some recent criticisms that have been lobbed his way. The criticisms deal with a marketing decision to ship two versions of the Xbox 360. One version will have a hard drive and one wouldn’t. I can tell you now that half of my readers don’t care, but I encourage you to read on because this is pretty interesting. the other half of my readers know that having a hard drive built into a game console is something of a pipe dream that has been in the collective consciosness of gamers ever since the early days of the Famicom (circa 1988). At least one console in every generation has tried the hard drive thing and it can safely be said that none of them have been overly successful (debate me on this if you want to), except one. The Xbox was the first system ever to have a built in hard drive. It offered a limited amount of functionality; it could “install” up to three games at a atime allowing faster load times, it could store lots and lots of music that could be played in-game, and it allowed an essentiually limitless number of game saves. There were some other features added on later but they are inconsequential. We move on to the system of today: the Xbox 360. It has been heralded as the first step in true entertainment convergence. You can watch DVS, play games, download content, buy content, create new content, meet people, play online, ad infinitum. It only seems natural that the new whiz kid would share certain qualities of its namesake. And it does, sort of. The Xbox 360 comes in two versions: with hard drive and without. There are other differences, but, in the mind of many gamers, that is the only one that matters. I realize I’m rambling now…Mostly I just want you to read this article about J. Allards response to these criticisms. I find this demonstration of tough love to be oddly appealing. Remeber as you are reading that this is a CEO speaking to his customers.
Other News:
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the biggest thing EVER! There is going to be a Halo movie…no that’s not the big news, we knew that already. The big news is that the executive producer of the Halo movie is going to be Peter Jackson. Google it.
