Writing a lot of code…

…I got a lot of work done on GloryFish.org tonight. If you haven’t been by lately check it out.
I finally got around to installing Vista today. The process was actually pretty close to a miracle as far as tech stuff goes (in my opinion anyway). I created a new Virtual Machine using Virtual PC. Then, I used Daemon Tools to mount the RC1 ISO. I installed Vista (2+ hours). The VM’s hard drive was saved on an external USB drive. Virtual PC was running on an Athlon 64 3.2 proc with 512 for the VM and 512 for the host. Once Vista was up and running I fired up Media Center and connected my Xbox 360. Zero hitches in the process. I was then able to successfully stream some movies (from a shared folder on the host machine, mapped as a network drive on the VM) to my TV in the living room. Apart from being a wee bit laggy in the interface it worked perfectly. Video and audio was crisp and clear.
It got me excited to use Vista day-to-day. There are some compelling new features and paradigms that I think really work. What struck me most was that this OS could really be my parent’s OS. I could see them getting around easily without a steep learning curve.
Sadly, the Aero Glass interface was not even close to supported in the VM so I may have to wait until release to experience it fully. I haven’t decided on the order but I have a three stage upgrade planned for the future:
-New video card
-New monitor
-Vista
I’m sorry if I lost most of my readers with the above. Listen to the podcast this weekend for a more in-depth and user-friendly explaination of my adventures in Vista.
Mahalo.
