First Person Shooters, Upping the Glory…

…If you play them on the PC regularly it is quite likely that you use a keyboard and mouse. Some of my friends will kill you if you suggest that there is any other way to play an FPS. However, Halo, one of the great FPSs to come out in the last five years utilizes the bulky XBox controller. Personally, I enjoy the controller with its ease of use, convenient buttons, and most importantly analog walking (with a keyboard you have, generally, two walk speeds:walk and run and eight directions to walk in An analog controller allows very fine control of speed and direction). Despite the benefits of walking et. al. many people believe that the tradeoff of poor aiming control is not worth it. Well, lik-sang.com, has given us the solution to the great problem: Halo may be cool, but controllers suck. Be sure to check out the video demonstration, it sold me on the concept.

An issue that was brought up on a forum about this new device: How will this affect Live games? Keyboard/Mouse users will have a distinct accuracy advantage over standard controller users. Will this be accounted for? Will Microsft ban users of this peripheral (it may be possible as the Xbox can distinguish between types of controllers, including the difference between the new “S Series” and the “Duke Classic” style).

Please comment on this, I’m quite fascinated.
