I have good news, and I have bad news…

…the good news is that the new Halo 2 site is up and it’s a good mystery. There’s plenty to explore and figure out, all of which (I assume) unlocks some fresh content like screenshots and wallpapers and such. It’s good. In fact, anything that makes the wait for November 9th just a little more bearable is good.
Now for the bad news…
Some lame-unglory- punk leaked Halo 2 over the internet last night. Yes, a pirate version is now floating around in cyberspace. The bastards couldn’t wait like everyone else and had to ruin it. I can handle a leaked trailer here and there, a screenshot maybe. But I have absolutely no love for anyone who would do something like this. It’s wrong, so very wrong. There is a good part of this, though. Unlike Valve who had a similar situation occur with their baby Half-Life 2 almost exactly one year ago, Bungie is not backed by the relatively weak publisher Sierra. Bungie is owned by Microsoft, the giant. There is no doubt that the full weight of Microsoft’s power will fall heavily and destructively on the person (or more likely people) who did this. I am curious to see how this unfolds, it’s major.

Thats a very good point, what is microsoft going to do? My personal opinion is that their going to come down and come down hard, much like nazi germany, but thats just me. I’m fairly ambivilent about microsoft losing money, but thats gotta suck for (insert long list of people that put their blood and tears into the game). As if it’s not hard enough to make a game, those people generaly speaking never see the payoff that the backing company (microsoft) sees.

I totally agree with you. Microsoft’s investment is purely monetary where Bungie’s is three years of blood, sweat, and tears.
