It’s my first day of school…

…Today I have three classes. First was “the Theory and Practice of Coaching Soccer,” then I had “Mathematical Functions,” and in two hours I will be sitting through my three hours of “Biology 101 with a Lab.” Tomorrow I just have CSC 102 “Intro to Computer Applications.” I have a few words to say about this.
As far as making the semester count this is a nightmare. I have absolutely no interest in coaching, teaching, planning, refereeing, or playing the sport of soccer. Yes, I used to play, and I’ve spectated at a few games, but learning how to set up my very own grassroots soccer league (yes that’s part of the course) and prevent high school hazing have never been goals of mine. Math…ughhhhh. I struggled through six years of upper-level math courses in junior high and high school. Through a miracle that can only be attributed to my glorious creator Himself I not only passed Calc 101, during my senior year, but I also got AP credit. Hot dog. But now, the college I attent after three years has decided that they have no record of that AP credit so they’r eforcing me to take a functions class. There goes my “Ha ha, I don’t have to take math in college!” line I use on Sarah all the time. Biology, need I go on? I’m a Mass Media major with a focus on Radio Technology and Broadcasting. The most Biological thing about that happens during the first ten minute break of my radio show. And Computer Applications? I’m typing this blog….I already surpass the qualifications of that course….*sigh*
And now the positive spin:
The Soccer teacher seems to have a great head on his shoulders, the grading system is fair and the class projects actually do sound pretty interesting. Also, as it is only a two credit course, the time commitment is much less than my other classes. I took Mathematical functions during my freshman year of high school. I know that stuff in and out. Our last section in the class is quadratic equations, child’s play. So, while the whole class may be an infuriating redundancy, in this case redundancy = easy “A”. Computer Applications may be a bit on the ummm basic side of things, but it will also be another good grade that I won’t have to work too hard for. Additionally, taking this class will make other, higher level, courses available which is desirable. Biology…there’s no positive spin. Three hours, twice a week. I could be taking Astronomy 101, but no, I get stuck in the pre-med section at a school that specializes in churning out nurses year after year. I have no good feelings about that.
In other news:
My Xbox died last Friday. An error involving the Xbox Dashboard 2.0 updater and a certain rogue installation of Xebian Linux resulted in “Warning! Your Xbox Dashboard partition is corrupted!” as I was attempting to make my Sims have sex. Irony..thy name is Microsoft. I am in the process of aquiring a new Xbox. I have the money but apparently noone has an Xbox. I would prefer to purchase it locally, particularly at the EB Games here in town. However Xboxes are completely out of stock there. Likewise at Wal*Mart. EB expects a shipment by Tuesday(Tomorrow). *GloryFish crosses his fingers. In the meantime my driend Evan loaned me his GameCube. I am debating on whether I should get sucked into the Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker or Final Fantasy: Chrystal Chronicles. Decisions, decisions. A voice in the back of my head is telling me I should get sucked into my homework…one sec…okay I killed him.
