The GIMP…

…is more capable than you would initially be led to believe. The GNU Image Manipulation Program is a worthy competitor to Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, and iPhoto. Layers, filters, custom brushes…anything a commercial program can do GIMP does it too, and usually it’s just a bit easier or more intuitive..usually. The best part? It’s totally free. GIMP is distributed under the GNU Public License, which means individuals may copy it, use it, modify it, send it over a P2P network, or burn it to a cd and use it as a coaster. If you use any sort of pixel editor, give GIMP a try. It’s ten times more powerful than any other “free” program, at least equal to most commercial programs, and is actually free.

On a simialr note, wander over to Brian’s blog to see the updates I made (as his friendly neighborhood webmaster) to his template. Of particular interest is the new header graphic (a la GIMP) which I think reflects his personal style. I used fonts from fontface.com, including a look-alike of the script used during the intro to the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas DVD. I also tweaked the colored stripes behind the sidebar to distinguish it from the main body and also complement the way-cool Blogger navbar. There’s a statcounter at the bottom and soon I will be repairing the wrapper glitch that causes the footer to break out of the frame. I love CSS.

Do you like all of the hyperlinking? Yes/No please comment…
